Superstitions in Greece

  •   People think that if you see a black cat, you will have bad luck.
  • The tradition says that if you break a mirror, you will have bad luck for seven years.
  •  When it is Tuesday 13th, it is an unlucky day for people and you must be careful. If someone is born on this day, people say that she/he is unlucky and none wants to get married on this date.
  •   Number 13 is unlucky because a day has 12 hours, a year has 12 months, Hercules did 12 feats, the Gospels are 12 and 13 spoils the harmony of the perfect number 12.
  • An old Greek tradition says that a woman shouldn't get pregnant on Evangelismos (Annunciation) Day, otherwise she will give birth on Christmas Day. But this day belongs only to Little Christ.
  •  The bride mustn't see the bridegroom a day before the wedding day because they will have bad luck in their marriage.
  •    The tradition says that if you open an umbrella indoors, a snake will enter the house.
  •  When you are sneezing, it means that someone is talking about you. If you want to know who this is, there is a way you may find out. Ask someone around you to give you a 3digit number. Add the numbers. Whatever letter it falls on, it is the initial.
